The heart of the homecoming season in Gainesville is echoed in the passionate energy of Soulfest.
Homecoming at the University of Florida is about coming together with a collective sense of love, celebration, and joy. Soulfest is a free multi-cultural celebration featuring a variety of food, talent, and artistic expression from the UF community and the city of Gainesville.
The event was founded in 2000 with the goal of including the UF multicultural community in the tradition of Homecoming week. This year will be its 19th year as a part of the Homecoming celebration.
Soulfest attendees get to witness UF students showcase their diverse backgrounds and talents. These talents range from dancing to singing to performances that evoke a strong sense of school spirit.
Soulfest 2018 was themed “Soulchella,” and included incredible performances from Danza Dance Company, Sabor Latino, Stomp the Swamp and TSS Dance Crew. Danza Dance Company took home the Group Winner prize, and DJ McDuffie, who sang “Feeling Good” by Nina Simone, took home the Solo/Duo Winner prize.
The Soulfest winners get to platform their talent on the Gator Growl stage before the headliner, filling the stage with their passion and energy. Soulfest seeks to inspire, teach and connect all people from all walks of life through the thread that connects us all — being a Florida Gator.
For this Homecoming season, Soulfest will be held on September 29, 2019 at the Curtis M Phillips Center. For more information, contact Jania Lowe at firstname.lastname@example.org
