UF Homecoming saddles up for Gator Growl 2019 with country music headliner Chase Rice

GAINESVILLE, FL, August 20, 2019 — The Gator Nation will celebrate the school’s Homecoming football game with comedian host Scooter Magruder and live performances by Chase Rice at Gator Growl on Oct. 4 at Flavet Field. The opener will be released at a later date.

Tickets for Gator Growl are now on sale. Student tickets cost $15 with the unique discount code distributed through the students’ UF emails. General admission tickets cost $25.

Chase Rice is a Florida-born country artist currently climbing the charts with his latest hit “Lonely If You Are.” Part of the team that wrote Florida Georgia line’s Diamond-certified smash “Cruise,” Rice’s own 2014 debut album “Ignite the Night” had several popular singles, including the Platinum-certified hits “Ready Set Roll” and “Gonna Wanna Tonight.” The album hit No. 1 on the country charts and reached the top five of the all-genre Billboard 200.

In 2018, Rice released the genre-bending album “Lambs & Lions,” featuring his two-week chart-topper “Eyes on You.” The title track “Lions” is the perfect way to hype up the Gators to take on Auburn for the Homecoming football game.

“I wanted to write something you would listen to in the locker room before you go out and crush it on the football field,” Rice said. “It means even more to me now because I had to weather a lot of storms, fight for my career—and see how much it motivates me.”

Gator Growl host Scooter Magruder is a UF alum and Youtube sensation. Magruder’s football commentary and skits regularly garner millions of views.

Gator Growl Producer Corben Champoux said the country artist embody this year’s theme, “This Is Gator Country.” The famous phrase found on the walls of the stadium represents the rich history and authentic passion of the Gator Nation.

“Gator Growl celebrates the Gator Nation and brings together students, alumni and community members,” Champoux said. “Gator Growl is bringing a country music headliner for the first time in over 25 years, and we know our talent will help bring the fun, light-hearted spirit of Homecoming to Flavet Field!”

UF Homecoming is a festive week-long celebration culminating in Gator Growl before the football game. Gator Growl attendees enjoy live musical performances, a beer and wine garden, food trucks and more to celebrate the university’s achievements and embrace their inner Gator pride.

Doors will open for Gator Growl at 6 p.m., with the live entertainment beginning at 7 p.m. Flavet Field is on Woodlawn Dr., Gainesville, Florida 32603.
