For 150 years, people have come together to create the unique city of Gainesville that we call home. In April 2019, the City of Gainesville launched Gainesville150! to commemorate the 150th anniversary of its incorporation.
During the anniversary year, the City of Gainesville and its partners are hosting interactive, engaging and inclusive programs and exhibits – leveraging education, technology, personal experiences and family lore that define the City’s shared heritage.
This year, Gainesville 150! is celebrating this feat in the University of Florida Homecoming Parade. There will be a festive float that represents the 150th anniversary of Gainesville marching down University Avenue on Oct. 4 beginning at 12 p.m.
The UF Homecoming Parade allows the entire Gainesville community to participate in a treasured Gainesville tradition. Gainesville 150!’s presence at this event demonstrates how the spirit of Homecoming is ingrained in the culture of the city.
