Sophomore Kelly Mathesie is serving as this year’s Director of External Events. As an Event Management major, it is suiting that her role deals with handling Growl’s talent on the day of the show. In preparation for the event, she has been reaching out to hotels, catering and rental companies to receive quotes and ensure the talent is taken care of before and while they are performing.
Once she receives the artists’ information, she will prepare anything they desire for their performance. Although there is a good amount of work she has to do before the artists arrive in Gainesville, the majority of it happens once the artists are in town. Her primary job is to make sure the artists are comfortable and taken care of.
She was drawn to the External Events aspect of Growl because she helped plan and run her high school’s Dance Marathon. When she attended Growl her freshman year, she was drawn to the organization because of how it combines her two interests: concerts and entertainment planning. When she found out about applications to be a director she jumped at the opportunity to be involved.
She is also involved with Chomp the Vote, March Of Dimes Collegiate Council, Florida Blue Key Divisions, Sigma Kappa Greek Relations Chair and a Jr. Panhellenic delegate.
