Soulfest is an live multicultural extravaganza that showcases various forms of expression and art from the students of UF AND the Gainesville community. The winner will get a chance to perform and platform their hard work at Gator Growl, the biggest homecoming event of the week. Not to mention, this event and the provided cultural foods are FREE.
The Explosive Steppers is the first non-Greek affiliated step team at the University of Florida. They exemplify precision, unison, and diversity and pride themselves on providing students with a physically creative outlet to showcase their talents outside of the classroom while encouraging both teamwork and individual expression. The diversity of the team’s members provides a dynamic and energetic environment for those to pursue their passion for stepping: an art form demonstrating strength, finesse, and endurance. When The Explosive Steppers drop a beat, their eye-catching and stage-shaking performance is sure to leave audiences wanting more.
The purpose of Apocalypse Dance Crew is to uplift and preserve brotherhood between men at the University of Florida. We promote self-confidence and a positive image through entertainment and dance routines, all the while demonstrating artistic abilities. Founded in 2000, we are the University of Florida’s Only ALL-Male dance crew, and in 15 years, we have grown into a dynamic and passionate crew that continues to promote brotherhood and to create dance routines that reveal our love for the art.
FEM Finesse is the official Dance Team of the Black Student Union. Finesse has been appearing on stage here at UF since the summer of 2011. Through their performances, they embody female empowerment and specialize in dance styles such as jazz, contemporary, and hip-hop
Latchkey is a Gainesville based beach rock band made up of UF students. They play regularly around Gainesville at places like The Swamp, High Dive, whiskey house, and other various events and philanthropies. They recently wrote and recorded 2 songs that are being featured in the upcoming film “What Happened Last Night” which is being distributed by Sony and will hit theaters in November. Their main focus is to write original music and perform, and hope to be able to pursue their passion for music for the rest of their lives as a career.
Gestalt, (noun) an organized whole that is perceived as more than the sum of its parts. A cappella is an art form that demands interdependence between singers. The melodies we sing combine to create chords and harmonies; take one part out, and the sound changes drastically. We rely on the individual parts to create the greater whole. This is Gestalt. United, our sound is much greater than that of any single voice. Founded just this semester, Gestalt A Cappella is electrified to share with you our DEBUT performance! @gestaltacappella
Milan Lanier is a second-year student from Melbourne, FL. She is pursuing a double major in Spanish and Biology on the pre-med track, with dreams of one day becoming a physician. She loves singing, and her mother often says, “She could sing before she learned how to talk!” She regularly sang at her home church in Melbourne, has been featured multiple times in the New Artist Spotlight at Disney’s Night of Joy in the Magic Kingdom, and she has performed at a few small events here at UF.
Stomp the Swamp is University of Florida’s rhythm tap dancing team. The purpose of this group is to trade knowledge and passion for tap dancing and to better the community. Stomp the Swamp strongly focuses on raising money for “Dancers Responding to AIDS” and promoting AIDS awareness through the art of tap dancing.
Sabor Latino is the official dance team of the Hispanic Student Association at the University of Florida. From salsa to hip-hop, Sabor Latino combines influences from traditional Latin dances and modern pop to represent present-day Hispanic culture in America. Their annual performances include VISA Talent Show, Soulfest, Gainesville Fashion Week, Pride Talent Show, FACES Fashion Show and many more. Dale!
Jonny Triumph is an Actor and Hip-Hop emcee, hailing from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He’s a new edition to the swamp via the Masters in Acting program at UF. Putting the pen to the pad since 10 years old, he’s shared stages with the likes of The Roots and MC Lyte. He’s the 2014 Raise Up Champion and braced performance stages such as Broadway, the Kennedy Center and Queen Elizabeth Hall in London.
This past year, Danza Dance Company has grown into an extremely diverse group. We feel that our talent has revolutionized into a strong, intricate unit and have worked hard to grow as one. With the theme of 2016 Homecoming, Danza is showcasing a piece that encompasses a wide array of technique, power, urban soul, and Hispanic flare. Not only are we a dance team, but we are also a family of close-knit relationships. We hope our performance can portray the passion we have for dance and express our love for inclusivity.
